I really enjoyed REAMDE. If I can recommend the following: Just finishing up Bullshit Jobs which is fantastic. If you can, check out Personal Best, a CBC podcast. Caliphate add Uncover NXIVM are also great. I follow Ryan Holiday who has a monthly email blast of recommended reading, always something worth picking up from his list. He wrote Conspiracy, which is about the Thiel/Hogan/Gawker debacle and is next on my list.

Re: Discovered on January 16, 2016 - Stung Eye - Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

Test.

Re: Discovered on December 31, 2010 - Stung Eye - Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

nice to see this post also viisit
http://www.dailyarts.in
http://www.dailyarts.in/gb-...
http://www.dailyarts.in/ins...

Re: Discovered on April 15, 2011 - Stung Eye - Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

Can I get more info on where this is and how it was done?

Re: Coding is Two Things - Stung Eye - Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

You know it's funny, sticking to the rigid format and problem solving are natural to me. The hardest part as a new developer, for me, is still thinking of everything individually and not having a sixth sense about what the method parameter I might need could be called. I spend so much time just trying to figure out the name of something I know exists but can't for the life of me guess.

Re: Reading and Listening in 2014 - Stung Eye - Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

Added a bunch of these to my to-read list! Which is why I have trouble thinking about these kind of things. The fact that an 8 hadn't rolled in 71 rolls does not mean it was any more likely to appear on roll 72. And yet probability theory tells us that 72 rolls without an 8 is less probable that 71 rolls without an 8. Is that solely because we had one more opportunity where an 8 *could* have been thrown?

If we were to talk about a single die, the independence of throws means (imo) that the sequence of rolls 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6 is no more interesting statistically than 2, 3, 2, 4, 5, 1. Am I right?

Re: Discovered on December 17, 2013 - Stung Eye - Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

This reminds me of a friend who would 'block out numbers' in keno games. He believed that by looking at the previously picked numbers, he would be able to better predict what numbers were likely to show up in the next draw.
The problem with my friend's reasoning was that the keno draw, (and your dice rolls) operate with no memory. The odds of rolling an 8 do not increase with each unsuccessful roll. Each roll has the same odds of an 8 appearing.
Stating that an 8 should appear every 7.2 rolls, while correct, is based on an infinite number of rolls.

Re: Discovered on December 17, 2013 - Stung Eye - Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

Interesting read.

Re: Discovered on November 24, 2013 - Stung Eye - Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

Great post.
